This spring we will read four novels set in different parts of the English speaking world.
We begin with a classic, The Lonely Londoners by Sam Selvon. It is set in 1950's London when the first immigrants arrive to the United Kingdom from the West Indies.
In March we will discuss Under the Udala Trees by Chinelo Okparanta. It is a story about friendship and love between two girls, one Christian Igbo and the other Muslim Hausa, set in Nigeria during the Biafran War.
In April we will talk about the Irish bestseller When all is said by Anne Griffin. This novel takes place in Ireland in 2014 and in it we are introduced to the 84 year-old farmer Maurice and get to know him through meeting the five most important people in his life.
In May we will meet for the last time this spring and will share our reading experiences of An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. The story focuses on Roy and Celestial, a middle-class, married African-American couple and the miscarriage of justice suffered by the husband.
